Gas Fireplace Repair, Tune-Up & Gas Logs in Durham, NC

Durham is 25–35 minutes from our Cary office up I-40 and the Durham Freeway, and we route Durham with Chapel Hill and Morrisville so a technician is often already on the west side of the Triangle when you call. Durham has the oldest housing stock we serve — Trinity Park, Watts-Hillandale, Forest Hills and Old West Durham are full of 1910s–1940s masonry fireplaces — alongside the direct-vent units in Hope Valley Farms, Woodcroft, Southpoint and Brier Creek, and we service the whole range under a North Carolina gas licence. For gas fireplace repair, annual tune-ups and gas log installation, call (919) 762-6267 or book online.

Gas Fireplace Service in Durham, NC

Century-Old Chimneys and Brand-New Direct-Vent

Durham's fireplaces tell the city's history. The tobacco-era neighbourhoods — Trinity Park, Watts-Hillandale, Old West Durham, Forest Hills, Morehead Hill and Duke Park — have masonry fireplaces from the 1910s to 1940s, most converted to vented gas logs at some point in the last forty years, often on original black-iron gas lines nobody has pressure-tested since. Croasdaile, Hope Valley and the post-war neighbourhoods near Duke have 1950s–70s brick fireplaces with a second or third generation of gas logs. Then, from the 1990s on, Woodcroft, Parkwood, Hope Valley Farms, Falconbridge, Southpoint, Brier Creek North and Treyburn were built with sealed direct-vent gas units — first millivolt, later IPI electronic ignition.

Our technicians work all of it. In the historic districts we inspect the flue, the damper clamp and the age of the gas line before touching a log set, and we know which 1920s fireboxes are too shallow for a modern vented set. In South Durham, RTP-side and Brier Creek homes we carry the Heat & Glo, Heatilator, Majestic, Monessen, Superior, Lennox and Napoleon parts those units need. We also cover the downtown condo conversions in Brightleaf and the American Tobacco district, where the fireplaces are usually small ventless or electric-to-gas retrofits.

If you smell gas, leave the home and call us from outside. Gas-smell calls go to the front of the line. For everything else, we quote a flat-rate price before touching the unit, and it does not change when the job is done. See our full fireplace services or book online.

Gas Fireplace Repair in Durham

Gas Fireplace Repair in Durham, NC

Durham repair calls fall into two groups. Older homes: gas logs that will not stay lit on a corroded valve, a pilot that keeps going out, or a gas or musty smell from a fireplace that has not been used in years. Newer homes: direct-vent units that click but do not ignite after summer, thermopiles that faded, and remotes that stopped working. Both are quoted flat-rate before we start.

Pilot Light & Ignition Problems

Including decades-old vented log sets in Trinity Park and Watts-Hillandale that have not been lit since last winter.

Durham Neighbourhoods We Serve

What We See in Durham's Fireplaces

Durham neighbourhoods span more than a century of construction, and the fireplace problems follow the era of the house.

1

Trinity Park, Watts-Hillandale & Old West Durham (27701/27705)

Durham's historic districts: 1910s–1940s masonry fireplaces, many with vented log sets that are 20–40 years old on original gas lines. We inspect the flue and damper clamp, leak-test the line, and replace corroded valves and pilots — or the whole set when the burner is done. Shallow fireboxes here often need a compact vented set rather than a standard one.

2

Forest Hills, Morehead Hill & Duke Park

Larger 1920s–1950s homes, frequently with two or three fireplaces and a mix of vented logs and unused wood-burners. Common request: converting a second fireplace to gas logs and bringing an old install up to current North Carolina requirements.

3

Hope Valley, Croasdaile & Westover Hills

1950s–1980s brick fireplaces that have been converted to gas once or twice already, sometimes with ventless sets never sized to the room. We correct undersized or oversized sets, restore proper damper position, and install a CO detector where a ventless set stays.

4

Woodcroft, Parkwood & Hope Valley Farms (27713)

South Durham's 1980s–2000s communities with first-generation millivolt direct-vent units now 20–35 years old. Thermopiles, pilot assemblies, control valves and glass gaskets are at end of life; we give a straight repair-or-replace opinion before spending your money.

5

Southpoint, Falconbridge & the RTP Side

2000s–2020s homes and townhomes near The Streets at Southpoint, NC-54 and NC-55 with IPI electronic-ignition units, wall switches and remotes. The most common call is a failed module, flame sensor or remote receiver after a humid summer — usually a first-visit fix.

6

Brier Creek North & Treyburn (27703/27712)

Newer and larger homes on Durham's eastern and northern edges, often with two fireplaces and thermostatic remotes, plus higher-end Napoleon and Mendota units in Treyburn. We service every unit in one visit at one flat rate each.

Gas Fireplace Tune-Up in Durham

Gas Fireplace Tune-Up in Durham, NC

A Durham tune-up depends on the fireplace. Masonry fireplaces in the historic districts get a flue, damper and gas-line inspection with the log set cleaned and repositioned; direct-vent units in South Durham and Brier Creek get the 12-point service — glass, gasket, burner, pilot or IPI system, venting and controls. We book Durham tune-ups in blocks with Chapel Hill in September and October so a west-Triangle day fills with neighbours. The full 12-point checklist, cleaning details and safety inspection are on our gas fireplace tune-up and cleaning page.

1

Masonry Fireplace & Log-Set Service

Flue and damper-clamp check, log-set cleaning and repositioning, valve and pilot test, and a leak test on black-iron gas lines that may be 50+ years old.

2

Direct-Vent 12-Point Service

Glass and gasket, burner ports, pilot assembly or IPI system, thermocouple/thermopile readings, venting and termination cap, remote and wall switch.

3

Gas Pressure & Leak Check

Every connection tested — especially important on original lines in Trinity Park, Watts-Hillandale and Forest Hills.

4

Carbon Monoxide & Venting Safety Check

Masonry and B-vent flues checked for draft and termination; we recommend a CO detector in any room with a ventless set.

5

Multi-Fireplace Homes

Forest Hills, Hope Valley and Treyburn homes with two or three units get one visit and one flat rate per unit.

6

Flat-Rate Price, No Add-Ons

One price for the tune-up. Parts are quoted separately and only replaced with your approval.

Gas Log Sets in Durham

Gas Log Sets in Durham, NC

Durham has more masonry fireplaces than any city we serve, so gas log work here is mostly vented sets going into brick fireplaces — replacing a worn-out set from the 1980s, converting a wood-burner, or fitting a compact set into a shallow 1920s firebox — plus upgrades to builder-grade logs in the South Durham direct-vent units. Brands include Real Fyre, Grand Canyon and Majestic. The vented-versus-ventless decision, the set types and what installation includes are all explained on our gas logs page.

Vented Log Sets

The right choice for most of Durham's masonry fireplaces from Trinity Park to Hope Valley — realistic flame, damper clamped open, flue inspected before the first burn.

Ventless Log Sets

Where a flue has been closed off or a room needs real heat — sized to North Carolina's room-size and BTU limits.

Remote-Controlled & Thermostatic Sets

For homeowners who want the fireplace to do some of the heating.

Gas Line Connection by a Licensed Technician

Leak-tested connection, new shutoff valve where needed, under NC State License No 37063.

Burner & Log Placement, Safety Testing, Remote Setup

Logs set to the manufacturer's diagram and tested before we leave.

City of Durham Permits

New gas lines and appliance installs in Durham go through the City-County Inspections Department; historic-district homes may also need a review. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.

What Homeowners Say About GreenergyAir Fireplace Service

230+ five-star reviews from real Wake County homeowners. Here are four fireplace jobs.

★★★★★

""Our gas fireplace hadn't worked in three years — the pilot wouldn't stay lit. Two previous companies couldn't fix it. GreenergyAir's technician diagnosed a failed thermopile in 10 minutes, had the part on his truck, and we had a working fireplace again the same afternoon. First fall we've actually used it in years.""

""GreenergyAir converted our wood fireplace to gas logs. Beautiful work — new Real Fyre log set, gas line run cleanly, finished trim looks original. Took one day. The technician walked us through operation and safety, and Mark called the next day to follow up. Could not be happier.""

""Our direct-vent fireplace was producing soot — black marks on the wall above. GreenergyAir's tech identified that the previous installer had set the logs wrong. He repositioned them, cleaned the soot, and explained what to look for. Problem solved without trying to upsell us a new fireplace. Honest people.""

""Booked an annual fireplace inspection. The tech found a small gas leak at the manifold connection that we never would have detected — tightened it up and re-tested. Also cleaned the burner and re-positioned the logs that someone had bumped. Genuinely thorough service. Will book every year going forward.""

Durham Gas Fireplace FAQs

Often, yes. Durham is 25–35 minutes from our Cary office, and because we route the west side of the Triangle together a technician is frequently already nearby. Gas smells and units that will not shut off are treated as emergencies at any hour.
Yes. Many historic-district homes have vented log sets that are 20–40 years old on original black-iron lines. We inspect the flue and damper clamp, leak-test the line, and repair the valve and pilot or recommend a replacement set if the burner is corroded. Shallow 1920s fireboxes often need a compact set.
Yes — Durham needs both. Our technicians carry parts for the direct-vent brands used in Woodcroft, Hope Valley Farms, Southpoint and Brier Creek, and they are trained on masonry fireplace conversions and gas log installs for the older neighbourhoods.
All of them — 27701, 27703, 27704, 27705, 27707, 27712 and 27713 — from downtown and the historic districts to South Durham, Brier Creek North and Treyburn.
It can be, if it is sized to the room and installed to North Carolina's BTU and room-size limits with a CO detector present. Many older installs in Hope Valley and Croasdaile were not — we correct undersized or oversized sets and will tell you plainly if a vented set is the safer choice.
If the firebox and venting are sound, most repairs — thermopile, pilot assembly, valve, glass gasket — are worth doing. Once the control valve and burner both need replacing, a new insert usually makes more sense. We give you the numbers for both before you decide.
It is a flat-rate price quoted before we start, with no trip charge for Durham. Any parts we recommend are quoted separately and only replaced with your approval.
