Gas Fireplace Repair, Tune-Up & Gas Logs in Chapel Hill, NC

Chapel Hill is a 25–35 minute drive from our Cary office by I-40 and NC-54, and we schedule Chapel Hill and Carrboro calls together so a technician is often already in Orange County when you call. Chapel Hill has the widest range of fireplaces in the Triangle — 1920s masonry chimneys near campus, mid-century brick in Coker Hills, and modern direct-vent units in Southern Village, Meadowmont and Briar Chapel — and we service all of them under a North Carolina gas licence. For gas fireplace repair, annual tune-ups and gas log installation, call (919) 762-6267 or book online.

Gas Fireplace Service in Chapel Hill, NC

From Historic Masonry to Modern Direct-Vent

No other town we serve mixes fireplace generations like Chapel Hill. Within two miles of the UNC campus you find 1920s–1950s brick fireplaces in the Northside, Gimghoul and Westwood neighbourhoods, many with vented gas log sets installed decades ago on original gas lines; 1960s–70s brick fireplaces in Coker Hills, Colony Woods and Glen Lennox that have been converted to gas once or twice already; and the sealed direct-vent units the builders put in Southern Village, Meadowmont, East Chapel Hill and Chandler's Green from the late 1990s onward. Each needs different parts, a different inspection and a different kind of technician.

Our technicians work all three. In the older homes we check the flue, damper clamp and the age of the gas line before touching the log set; in Governors Club, Briar Chapel and Fearrington-area homes we carry the Heat & Glo, Majestic, Napoleon and Mendota parts those units use. We also serve Carrboro (27510), Hillsborough (27278) and the Fearrington Village side of Pittsboro (27312) on the same routing.

If you smell gas, leave the home and call us from outside. Gas-smell calls go to the front of the line. For everything else, we quote a flat-rate price before touching the unit, and it does not change when the job is done. See our full fireplace services or book online.

Gas Fireplace Repair in Chapel Hill

Gas Fireplace Repair in Chapel Hill, NC

Chapel Hill repair calls fall into two groups. Older homes: gas logs that will not stay lit, a pilot that keeps going out on a 30-year-old valve, or a musty or gas smell from a fireplace that has not been used in years. Newer homes: direct-vent units that click but do not ignite, thermopiles that have faded, and remotes that stopped working. We price both flat-rate before starting.

Pilot Light & Ignition Problems

Including old vented log sets in Northside and Westwood that have not been lit since last winter.

Chapel Hill Neighbourhoods We Serve

What We See in Chapel Hill's Fireplaces

Chapel Hill neighbourhoods span a century of construction, and the fireplace problems follow the era of the house.

1

Northside, Westwood & Gimghoul (27514/27516)

Pre-war and mid-century masonry fireplaces near campus, many with vented log sets on decades-old lines. We inspect the flue and damper clamp, leak-test the original gas line, and replace corroded log-set valves and pilot assemblies. Log sets here are often overdue for replacement rather than repair.

2

Coker Hills, Colony Woods & Glen Lennox

1960s–1980s brick fireplaces that have been converted to gas, sometimes with ventless sets that were never sized to the room. We correct undersized or oversized sets, restore proper damper position, and bring installs up to current North Carolina requirements.

3

Southern Village & Meadowmont

Late-1990s and 2000s new-urbanist communities with first-generation direct-vent units now 20–25 years old. Thermopiles, pilot assemblies, control valves and glass gaskets are all reaching end of life; we give you a repair-or-replace opinion, not just a bill.

4

Governors Club, Briar Chapel & Fearrington

Larger and newer homes with higher-end units — Mendota, Napoleon, Heat & Glo — often with multiple fireplaces per home and thermostatic remotes. Common calls: IPI ignition modules, remote receivers, and annual service on units that run most of the winter.

5

East Chapel Hill & Chandler's Green

Custom and semi-custom homes from the 1990s–2010s along Weaver Dairy Road with a mix of direct-vent and B-vent units. Venting inspections matter here: several B-vent fireplaces we have seen were never properly terminated above the roofline.

6

Carrboro & Hillsborough

Older mill-village and downtown homes in Carrboro and Hillsborough with masonry fireplaces, plus new construction on the edges. We take these on the same Orange County route as Chapel Hill.

Gas Fireplace Tune-Up in Chapel Hill

Gas Fireplace Tune-Up in Chapel Hill, NC

A Chapel Hill tune-up depends on the fireplace: for a masonry fireplace with gas logs we focus on the flue, damper clamp, gas line and log placement; for a direct-vent unit it is the 12-point service — glass, gasket, burner, pilot, venting and controls. We book Chapel Hill tune-ups in blocks in September and October so an Orange County day fills with neighbours rather than one long drive. The full 12-point checklist, cleaning details and safety inspection are on our gas fireplace tune-up and cleaning page.

1

Masonry Fireplace & Log-Set Service

Flue and damper-clamp check, log-set cleaning and repositioning, valve and pilot test, and a gas-line leak test on lines that may be 50+ years old.

2

Direct-Vent 12-Point Service

Glass and gasket, burner ports, pilot assembly, thermocouple/thermopile readings, venting and termination cap, remote and wall switch.

3

Gas Pressure & Leak Check

Every connection tested — especially important on the original steel lines in older Chapel Hill homes.

4

Carbon Monoxide & Venting Safety Check

B-vent and masonry flues are checked for draft and termination; we recommend a CO detector in any room with a ventless set.

5

Multi-Fireplace Homes

Governors Club and Briar Chapel homes with two or three units get one visit and one flat rate per unit.

6

Flat-Rate Price, No Add-Ons

One price for the tune-up. Parts are quoted separately and only replaced with your approval.

Gas Log Sets in Chapel Hill

Gas Log Sets in Chapel Hill, NC

Chapel Hill has more masonry fireplaces than any town we serve, so gas log installations here are mostly vented sets going into brick fireplaces — replacing a worn-out set, or converting a wood-burner that the homeowner is tired of cleaning. Brands include Real Fyre, Grand Canyon and Majestic. The vented-versus-ventless decision, the set types and what installation includes are all explained on our gas logs page.

Vented Log Sets

The right choice for most of Chapel Hill's masonry fireplaces — realistic flame, damper clamped open, flue inspected before the first burn.

Ventless Log Sets

Where a flue has been closed off or a room needs real heat — sized to North Carolina's room-size and BTU limits.

Remote-Controlled & Thermostatic Sets

For homeowners who want the fireplace to do some of the heating.

Gas Line Connection by a Licensed Technician

Leak-tested connection, new shutoff valve where needed, under NC State License No 37063.

Burner & Log Placement, Safety Testing, Remote Setup

Logs set to the manufacturer's diagram and tested before we leave.

Town of Chapel Hill & Orange County Permits

New gas lines and appliance installs inside the town limits go through Chapel Hill Inspections; homes in unincorporated Orange or Chatham County use the county. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.

What Homeowners Say About GreenergyAir Fireplace Service

230+ five-star reviews from real Wake County homeowners. Here are four fireplace jobs.

★★★★★

""Our gas fireplace hadn't worked in three years — the pilot wouldn't stay lit. Two previous companies couldn't fix it. GreenergyAir's technician diagnosed a failed thermopile in 10 minutes, had the part on his truck, and we had a working fireplace again the same afternoon. First fall we've actually used it in years.""

""GreenergyAir converted our wood fireplace to gas logs. Beautiful work — new Real Fyre log set, gas line run cleanly, finished trim looks original. Took one day. The technician walked us through operation and safety, and Mark called the next day to follow up. Could not be happier.""

""Our direct-vent fireplace was producing soot — black marks on the wall above. GreenergyAir's tech identified that the previous installer had set the logs wrong. He repositioned them, cleaned the soot, and explained what to look for. Problem solved without trying to upsell us a new fireplace. Honest people.""

""Booked an annual fireplace inspection. The tech found a small gas leak at the manifold connection that we never would have detected — tightened it up and re-tested. Also cleaned the burner and re-positioned the logs that someone had bumped. Genuinely thorough service. Will book every year going forward.""

Chapel Hill Gas Fireplace FAQs

Often, yes. Chapel Hill is 25–35 minutes from our Cary office, and because we route Orange County calls together a technician is frequently already nearby. Gas smells and units that will not shut off are treated as emergencies at any hour.
Yes. Many Northside, Westwood and Coker Hills homes have vented log sets that are 20–40 years old on original gas lines. We inspect the flue and damper clamp, leak-test the line, and either repair the valve and pilot or recommend a replacement set if the burner is corroded.
Yes — that is the whole point in Chapel Hill. Our technicians carry parts for direct-vent brands used in Southern Village, Meadowmont, Governors Club and Briar Chapel, and they are trained on masonry fireplace conversions and gas log installs for older homes.
Yes. Carrboro (27510), Hillsborough (27278) and the Fearrington side of Pittsboro (27312) are on the same Orange County route as Chapel Hill.
It can be, if it is sized to the room and installed to North Carolina's BTU and room-size limits with a CO detector present. Many older installs were not — we correct undersized or oversized sets and will tell you plainly if a vented set is the safer choice.
If the firebox and venting are sound, most repairs — thermopile, pilot assembly, valve, glass gasket — are worth doing. Once the control valve and burner both need replacing, a new insert usually makes more sense. We give you the numbers for both before you decide.
It is a flat-rate price quoted before we start, with no trip charge for Chapel Hill. Any parts we recommend are quoted separately and only replaced with your approval.
