Vented vs Ventless Gas Logs in North Carolina Homes
This is the first decision on every gas log job. The two types look similar in a showroom and behave very differently in a living room.
Vented Gas Logs
Vented log sets burn with the damper open, like a wood fire. The flame is tall, yellow and realistic because the by-products — and a good share of the heat — go up the chimney. They are the right choice for an existing masonry fireplace with a sound flue and for anyone who wants the most convincing "real fire" look.
Ventless (Vent-Free) Gas Logs
Ventless sets burn with the damper closed and are engineered to burn almost completely clean, so nearly all the heat stays in the room. Every ventless set carries an oxygen depletion sensor that shuts the gas off if room oxygen falls. North Carolina's residential code allows them, but limits BTU output relative to room size and restricts where they can go — bedrooms and bathrooms have tight limits — and some homeowners notice the moisture and faint odour a sealed-room burner produces.
Which Is More Common in Wake County?
